What can I post?

NYFA Classifieds caters to the national and international creative community. A few of the industries we serve include: academia, architecture and design, arts of all disciplines, curatorial, media and tech, publishing, government agencies, and nonprofits in the arts and social justice. You may list jobsopportunities and services, and spaces on our board.

Please note that volunteer positions within for-profit businesses will not be approved on our board.

Should I post my listing in the Jobs, Opportunities and Services, or Spaces page?

Here is a helpful guide:

Jobs: all full-time or part-time positions, either permanent or temporary; freelance or consulting opportunities; internships; and/or volunteer opportunities at nonprofits.

Opportunities and Services: auditions, awards/fellowships, grants, open calls to artists, degree programs, workshops or classes, residencies, production services, professional development, and/or any other opportunity or service that may be of interest to the creative community.

Spaces: artistic or creative live/work space, including studios, galleries, workshops, offices, rehearsal space, and performance venues, available for use in the short or long-term. You may also post here if you are seeking space for any of these purposes.

FISCAL SPONSORSHIP FAQ

What is Fiscal Sponsorship, and why is it needed?

Fiscal sponsorship gives an artist or emerging arts organization access to funding opportunities and other resources through an affiliation with a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Fiscally sponsored Artist Projects and Emerging Organizations can apply for grants from foundations or corporate funders that are usually restricted to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, and offer individual donors the benefit of a tax-deductible contribution.

What is the difference between an Artist Project, and an Emerging Organization?

Artist Projects are specific projects done by individual artists or unincorporated artist collectives. NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship can contract with individuals or artists who have an LLC or corporation. We only accept contributed income for Artist Projects. Emerging Organizations must be incorporated as a nonprofit on the state level. They may also be their own 501(c)(3). We accept both earned and contributed income for Emerging Organizations.

Do I have to live in New York City or State?

No. NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship is an international program, but you do need a U.S. taxpayer identification number.

NYSCA/NYFA ARTIST FELLOWSHIP FAQ

What is a NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship?

NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships, awarded in fifteen different disciplines over a three-year period, are $7,000 cash awards made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York and or Indian Nations located therein for unrestricted use. NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships are not project grants but are intended to fund an artist’s vision or voice, regardless of the level of their artistic development.

How are NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellows selected?

NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellows are selected based on their artistic vision and voice presented within their application. Materials are reviewed and voted on by the panelists through elimination rounds, producing a smaller pool for each round. An artist’s advancement is a product of the collective vote of the panel. A single panelist cannot ensure an applicant’s success or failure. The panel’s selection of Fellows and Finalists is reviewed by NYFA’s Artists’ Advisory Committee and by NYFA’s Board of Trustees. Neither the Committee nor the Board reviews the work of applicants or makes any aesthetic judgments. Panelists’ names are kept confidential until the awards are announced.

How many applications are received for the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in each cycle, and how many fellowships are awarded per category?

NYFA receives between 2,000 – 4,000 applications each application cycle. The number of grants awarded is predetermined by the amount of funding available for distribution. The number of awards distributed per discipline category is dependent on the number of applications we receive in each discipline. In 2018, NYSCA/NYFA awarded 89 Fellowships, totaling an amount of $623,000.
