New York Music Month Extended Play
NYFA presented a series of events showcasing the music recipients of the New York City Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre as part of New York Music Month Extended Play, an initiative of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
NYFA was pleased to partner with New York Music Month Extended Play to present a series of events showcasing music recipients of the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre.
NYFA’s programming highlighted the voices and perspectives of women-identifying artists within the music industry through panel discussions with musicians and industry professionals, showcases of new recordings, and music videos created by NYC Women’s Fund recipients in 2020.
The NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre, established in 2018, is a signature initiative to address the underrepresentation of women in the entertainment industry by City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), administered by NYFA.

The panelists discussed their career trajectories in the music industry and the roadblocks that they have overcome along the way.

Description: An introspective and activist-driven playlist with jazz, soul, and experimental influences centering women identifying singer songwriters. Featuring tracks from NYC Women’s Fund music recipients Candice Hoyes, Sarah Elizabeth Charles, Julia Kwamya, and Lucy Yeghiazaryan.
What: Adi Meyerson – “I Want to Sing My Heart Out in Praise of Life”
Description: Presentation of NYC Women’s Fund recipient Adi Meyerson’s six-part “I Want to Sing My Heart Out in Praise of Life” suite, which is inspired by the story and artwork of Yayoi Kusama. Recorded live at the Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn, NY on May 23, 2021 by Bravesound Productions.
What: Renee Goust – Album Release Interview
Description: A conversation with NYC Women’s Fund recipient Renee Goust about her new album “RESISTER”. Written and performed by Goust, the album combines Mexican and American folk traditions with queer forward lyrics to express personal and political empowerment.
