Maria Villafranca, NYFA Coach and Director of Marketing at Design Museum Everywhere, will present on the topic on Thursday, February 18, 2021, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM EST.
Workshop Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed all aspects of our lives—including, of course, the job market. With many arts organizations struggling, job hunting has become more competitive and the process for finding opportunities very different with shifting job responsibilities and largely virtual interviews and networking. Whether you are an entry-level job seeker or an experienced manager, this workshop will provide an overview of all stages of a job search during the pandemic—from finding opportunities, building transferable skills, applying, interviewing, and negotiating an offer. We’ll cover arts-specific resources from a range of disciplines, virtual interviews, and how to strategically network in the field. You’ll walk away with a clearer sense of how to navigate the current job market and frame your career for new opportunities in the arts.
This workshop is geared toward arts and culture employees at all career stages, and will walk you through all aspects of searching for a job including:
- Defining your dream job and how to develop transferable skills: We’ll discuss a range of career options in the visual, literary, and performing arts that are available now and when the pandemic is over, and key questions to consider in tailoring your search.
- Reviewing how to locate opportunities and network virtually: In addition to an overview of arts-specific employment resources, we’ll talk about informational interviews, staying informed about the field, and virtual networking.
- Sharing application strategies: We’ll define tips for creating and adapting your cover letter and resume for each application, including common missteps!
- Providing interview insights: We’ll review how to prepare for a virtual interview, how to respond to challenging questions, and key questions that you should ask potential employers.
- Previewing what comes next: Finally, we’ll talk about job offers, how to negotiate, and how to build lasting relationships in the field.
